YOUTH ONE-STOP (WIA)
Counties Operated In: Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia, Torrance
|
Through the New Mexico Workforce Connection, YDI operates the Workforce Investment
Act program (WIA) in the Central Region of New Mexico; Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia,
and Torrance counties. YDI staff are located in each county in the One-Stop office
developed by the Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico (WCCNM) and the Central
Region governing board of WIA. YDI is co-located with other WIA providers including
the New Mexico Department of Labor, Job Corps, ABE, TANF, and many more.
The WIA youth program operates year-round providing services to in-school youth
and out-of-school youth ages 14-21. Each One-Stop is designed around the ten WIA
elements for youth. These services are alternative education, drop-out prevention,
leadership, summer employment, guidance and counseling, work experience, supportive
services, adult mentoring, occupational skills training and follow-up. Programming
at each site also incorporates current economic and employment trends specific to
each county’s facility.
In addition to operating the WIA elements, YDI also leverages its existing agency
programs and program services to ensure that other essential wrap-around services
for youth are also accessible to clients throughout the four-county area as needed.
