GED Program

The GED program provides GED preparation and instruction for youth ages 16-24 that have dropped out of school. The program is also a workforce program and offers employment training to all students. The program assists students in obtaining gainful employment by completing their education and training for career-readiness. Each participant will need to qualify through HUD Income guidelines.

The program offers employability skills training and job placement assistance which leads to unsubsidized employment. Referrals to counseling and other support services are also available to all students to assist them in achieving a positive completion in the program.

Classes are held Monday through Friday during the following times:

Morning class: 9 am – 11:30 pm
Afternoon class: 12 pm – 2:30 pm

Robert Chavez

YDI Executive Vice President Robert Chavez’s history with YDI began when he was a 14-year-old summer youth employee.  Today, he oversees three YDI divisions, Education, Employment and Training, Educational Support and Prevention, Intervention and Treatment, focused on furthering youths' successful educational attainment and employment, helping children, youths, adults and families stay healthy, gain life skills and have safe living environments and providing youths with opportunities beyond their classroom experiences.

He is the former interim co-division director for the New Mexico Human Services Department's Behavioral Health Services Division, where he oversaw the division, collaborated with other state agencies in the delivery of behavioral health services and was the designated point of contact to the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Chavez, who holds MA and BS degrees from the University of Phoenix, is a licensed foster parent with NM's Children, Youth and Families Department and a former YDI Employee of the Year.
