The YDI Educational Support Division mission is to provide extended learning opportunities to youth beyond their classroom experiences.

For many students, the school-day curriculum and learning is not adequate for their individual (and/or family situation) needs. This division includes after-school programs in many Albuquerque Public Schools, as well as, Supplemental Education Services (SES) Tutoring and Full-Service Community Schools across the state of New Mexico.

The Educational Support Division is also a certified GED testing facility for individuals who have not graduated from a comprehensive high school.

21ST CCLC AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Located in eight different APS schools and serving over 1,000 children and youths at no cost to families. This program is funded through federal and state money.

Educational Support Division

YDI TUTORING-SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES (SES)

This tutoring program is available through federal monies set aside to provide free tutoring services to qualifying students attending “Schools in need of Improvement”.

Educational Support Division

Frank Mirabal is currently serving as Vice President of Educational Support for Youth Development Inc. Prior to his work at YDI, Frank spent five years as the President of Contigo Research, Policy & Strategy, a national consulting firm that provides research, public policy and strategic thinking services. Frank is pursuing a PhD at New Mexico State University in Educational Leadership and has both a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a BA in Communications and Journalism from the University of New Mexico.

21st Century Community Learning Centers After-School Programs

The 21st CCLC before/after school programs are federally funded programs designed to serve students throughout the state of New Mexico.

YDI is the selected provider for 7 programs within the Albuquerque Public Schools District. The school sites served are Jimmy Carter MS, Truman MS, Carlos Rey ES, Duranes ES, Edward Gonzales ES, Helen Cordero Primary School, and Lavaland ES.

Elev8 NM Full-Service Community Schools

YDI-Elev8’s full-service community school approach combines high quality educational and youth development practices and partnerships to assure young people are prepared to learn and succeed. Elev8 New Mexico supports five middle schools across three school districts. YDI-Elev8 NM’s focus is on increasing learning time, engaging families, strengthening community and school connections, and coordinating resources with three key components:

GED Testing

YDI is a state-certified and approved center for GED (General Education Development) testing. YDI administers GED Tests to youth and community members. Many youth and adults who did not complete a high school program continue to learn daily through a variety of life experiences. The GED Testing Program at YDI provides an opportunity for these educational skills and abilities to be evaluated and recognized. The GED test makes it possible for qualified individuals to earn a high school credential providing many opportunities. In New Mexico, students who pass the GED are provided with a New Mexico High School Diploma.

YDI - SES Tutoring

This tutoring program is of no cost to parents of students at qualifying schools. Under the “No Child Left Behind Act”, some students who are below proficiency in reading and/or math qualify for federally-funded tutoring. Parents of eligible students are notified each year in the Fall and may select from a variety of tutoring providers for a number of free tutoring sessions.
