WHO ARE WE?

YDI Mentoring Initiative is a mentoring program that helps children and youth, ages 6-17, build a strong character, achieve positive self-esteem, and create solutions to their everyday problems with the help of a caring relationship with an adult volunteer mentor.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WISE MEN AND WOMEN (WM&W) has been working with local schools all over Albuquerque for over almost 20 years!

  • Mentoring takes place on school grounds between 9:00am and 3:00pm; no weekend commitments!
  • 22 locations throughout the city
  • Program provides games and crafts, you pay nothing!
  • 1 hr/week for one school year

MENTORING CHILDREN OF PROMISE (MCOP) serves youth who have a parent that is incarcerated or has a history of incarceration.

  • Mentoring takes place out in the community and we can provide ideas for activities!
  • Serves youth age 4-17
  • Tremendous flexibility in scheduling!
  • 4 hrs/month for one calendar year

Why mentor with YDI

We are a local program serving local children. We keep our numbers small so we can provide a family-feel environment and extensive support to our mentors and mentees. All participation in the program, from the mentees, the their parents and the mentors is voluntary. Volunteer support includes individual monthly contact, monthly roundtable meetings, and a quarterly newsletter.
