Anastasia Perez (pictured above in green jacket), 18 years old, was placed at the Working Classroom to do her work experience element of the YDI Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) program.  Anastasia had no work experience, but was interested in working some where she could use her creativity. She did an apprenticeship at the Working Classroom in photography as well.  This worksite has helped her be more outgoing, responsible, work as a team, and has helped her get inspired in the arts.  Tammy Chavez is currently her Case Manager and is helping Anastasia with assistance in paying for classes at CNM where she is pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts.    She is currently in her third semester at CNM and maintains a 3.0 GPA.   The Working Classroom works with various artists who teach and train students to develop their artistic talents.

Youth Development Inc.’s “Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) youth program operates year-round providing services to in-school youth and out-of-school youth ages 14-24. With 4 centers in 4 counties, WIOA provides 14 program elements to strengthen the education, work readiness and occupational skills of youth to be successful in the workforce.. Programming at each site also incorporates current economic and employment trends specific to each county’s facility.

YDI WIOA is looking for young people who want to enroll in the WIOA program and receive paid job opportunities, and Employers who want to partner with us.  The program pays the young people to work at places of employment who would like to participate.
